European Week for Sustainable Development and UNILEAD projects
The public universities associated in the UNILEAD projects have decided to join together their activities in the European Week for Sustainable Development (ETUR). The list of events that took place from 18 September to 8 October promoting sustainable development in universities can be found in the link below. A list of all the events can then be found at www.tydenudrzitelnosti.cz.
#ETUR_Sustainable_universities
In 2022, MU coordinated the cooperation of 24 Czech universities in a project supported by the Centralised Development Programme of the Ministry of Education and Science, the common subject of which is activities for the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
In order to support the implementation of the SDGs and protect our society and environment, as actors from within Czech universities, we identified a mutually beneficial intention to act in a coordinated manner in the matter of SDG implementation, to share our experiences, to exchange available and functional domestic and foreign good practices, and to gradually form a voluntary set of recommendations for transparent and measurable expression of progress towards the goals.
UNILEAD I
The aim of the project was to strengthen the role of universities as "effective, accountable and inclusive" public organisations by ensuring more effective collaboration in the transfer of good practice in the implementation of the SDGs within the operational aspects of universities ("Resources for Change").
Within the key areas addressed, MU guaranteed the theme "Responsible Purchasing - Public Procurement," and is a co-developer in the areas of "Waste, Prevention and Recycling", "Energy Management" and "Sustainable IT Infrastructure" and was a co-leader on all other topics.
The output of the project is, among other things, a set of recommendations applicable by university management and their subsequent transfer into practice through the necessary involvement of internal and external key persons.
The final management summary provides an overview of the final deliverables from all areas addressed in the project in 2022.

UNILEAD II
Following the UNILEAD I project, the Unilead II project was implemented in 2023 to further develop the engagement (with a view to further developing the curriculum area and potentially a voluntary standard). In the UNILEAD II project, the topics addressed are divided into 5 main areas with three horizontal themes.
The output of the project is sub-generic strategies and sub-individual strategies. These are a set of rules, procedures, checklists and elements to be respected and available when developing specific sustainability strategies. The generic and individual strategies are interlinked and complement each other. The structure of the project is mainly dedicated to sub-generic strategies that respect certain principles and contain key elements that will ensure a coherent structure of individual strategies.
