Overall, Masaryk University is ranked 161st in 2023 ( in the category of Environmental Impact 215th, in the category of Social Impact 186th and in the category of Governance 117th).

The ranking tracks the contribution of higher education institutions to addressing global environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenges. It recognizes an institution's efforts to build a sustainable world, with an emphasis on its impact beyond the university campus.

The comprehensive system of measurement includes 53 indicators, with inputs including scientific performance metrics in the Scopus database, outputs from two reputation surveys, data provided in the QS WUR questionnaire by the institution itself, statistical data at the national level (via UN/UNESCO), tracking the institution's membership in specific transnational initiatives and associations, and more.

The active involvement of the institution is not required for inclusion in the ranking, but it is optional to send part of the input data that would otherwise be collected by QS from publicly available sources. Institutions can thus influence up to 24% of the overall ranking through their own involvement.
