4.3 Institution Management and Infrastructure - Responsible operation and resources management

Objective:

Develop and implement sub-strategies for responsible operation and management of resources and ensure the establishment of sustainability principles in other areas of the institution.

MEASURES:
  • PROCUREMENT, ENERGY, WASTE - Continue to implement and evaluate the impacts of approved strategies:
    • for sustainable waste management and prevention 2023-2028,
    • for responsible public procurement 2023-2028,
    • for sustainable energy management 2024-2028.
  • WATER AND BIODIVERSITY - development and implementation of a strategy for responsible water management using recommendations from the UNILEAD project (monitoring of consumption, retained rainwater and water leakage, green space management) and linking it to biodiversity support.
  • CLEAN MOBILITY - Adoption and implementation of a Sustainable Mobility Strategy that will support the minimization of environmental impacts of work, study and commuting trips of students and employees, evaluate the status and opportunities for optimizing parking infrastructure and promoting clean mobility, support negotiations with relevant partners (public, private, non-profit) and motivate employees and students in the field of clean mobility, including shared mobility.
  • SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION - during construction and reconstruction, follow the concepts of sustainable construction, including the possible use of certified tools, development of systems optimizing the link between construction and future sustainable operation, increasing the proportion of green areas and their accessibility, compliance with the principles of universal design, increasing the number and quality of beds in dormitories.
  • SUSTAINABLE CATERING - create and implement a Sustainable Catering Strategy - considering the principles of sustainable purchasing of food for canteens, food offerings, management of catering waste and packaging, and education of staff and users; include the implementation of the strategy as a permanent item on an existing platform (e.g. MU Catering Policy Commission).
OUTPUTS:
  • Implemented strategies for sustainable waste management and prevention, for sustainable energy management and for responsible public purchasing, including guaranteeing adequate rights for employees of outsourcing companies with which the University has a contract.
  • Responsible water management strategy developed and implemented, linked to biodiversity promotion, including mapping and promotion of local biodiversity.
  • A quantified commitment to rationally reducing the University's carbon footprint.
  • Formulate a climate action plan and share with local government and community groups.
  • Sustainable Mobility Strategy is implemented with defined targets and measurements, and clean transport is promoted for both commuting and business travel.
  • New construction, reconstruction and repairs of buildings at MU are carried out in accordance with sustainable building concepts (certified instruments).
  • A Sustainable Catering Strategy is implemented with defined targets and measurements, promoting sustainability (environmental, economic and social) throughout the catering process and including a policy for external caterers.
