How to handle plastics at MUNI

In order not to waste your time, we have summarized everything about the university waste sorting.

Prevention is the key

  • Retailers distribute millions of plastic bags every year. Do you already have your own reusable bag? At MUNISHOP, there are several natural material options to choose from.
  • At MU, it is possible to refill filtered water (in your own bottle) to help save waste from PET bottles. Lokni water dispensers are available at the Faculty of Economics and Administration, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Social Studies, and newly at the University Campus in Bohunice.

Into containers marked with yellow stickers:

Yes

  • Rigid plastic packaging (plastic containers from cosmetics or non-aggressive detergents), PET bottles, other smaller rigid plastic products, smaller pieces of polystyrene, plastic bags, folders and films, beverage packaging from tetrapak, packaging from yoghurt, creams and fats (no metal lids!)

  • The liquid contents of the containers must be poured out.
  • To maximize the use of container space plastic bottles and other packaging should be squeezed.

No

  • Contaminated food residue packaging, including boxes and bowls
  • Packaging of chemicals
  • Packaging of composite materials (excluding tetrapak)
  • Metal caps, stoppers and closures for bottles and other containers

Thank you for helping on the road to a circular economy at MUNI!

Did you know that...?

  • Recycling
    • A single plastic bottle can save as much energy as a 60W bulb for up to 6 hours.
    • one tonne of plastic can save up to 2,000 litres of petrol.
    • plastics save scarce natural resources (oil and natural gas) and reduce energy consumption by 80 to 90%.
