How to handle metals at MUNI

In order not to waste your time, we have summarized everything about the university waste sorting.

Prevention is the key

  • Consider packaging alternatives when buying food and other products. For example, beverages can be purchased in glass instead of cans, and then the life cycle of the glass can be extended by using it for household food storage (seeds, oils, homemade syrups...) or by reusing it for tap water in its own container. At MU, filtered water can be tapped into its own container at several faculties. Every visitor has unlimited access to tap water.

In containers marked with blue-grey stickers:

Yes

  • Cans and other metal food packaging, metal lids, foil, paper clips, completely emptied aerosol containers (e.g. sprays of antiperspirants, whipped cream)
  • The liquid contents need to be poured out. To maximize the use of space, the cans should be squeezed.

No

  • Contaminated packaging with food residues, paint cans
  • Packaging made of combined materials
  • Pressure vessels with residues of hazardous substances
  • Household appliances and other end-of-life equipment composed of multiple materials
  • Heavy or toxic metals - lead, mercury

Thank you for helping on the road to a circular economy at MUNI!

Did you know that...?

  • Metals are 100% recyclable!

  • Recycled aluminium can be back on the shelves in the form of a new can within 60 days.
