Masaryk University Strategy for Responsible Water Management and Biodiversity Support 2026–2028
Under review by working groups
This strategy has been developed to ensure that Masaryk University systematically and responsibly manages water resources in its daily operations and actively contributes to the protection and promotion of biodiversity within its campuses and the surrounding environment. It builds on the university’s mission to contribute to a high-quality and healthy life for all generations and to a free, cohesive, and safe society, and it specifies concrete steps towards fulfilling the principles of sustainable development.
Responsible water management and biodiversity support represent an approach to the development and management of university infrastructure and environment that:
- reduces potable water consumption and optimizes its use,
- promotes the use of alternative water sources and increases water retention and infiltration capacity of the area,
- integrates nature-based solutions into campus planning and landscaping,
- protects and enhances species diversity through systematic care of greenery and landscape elements,
- minimizes the negative environmental impacts of university operations and contributes to long-term environmental stability.
The strategy also promotes participation, research, and education in the areas of sustainable water management and biodiversity protection, and establishes a framework for monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the adopted measures.
